Creative Woman Series

Here the creative wild woman rests under the olive tree, content in the beauty surrounding her. In ancient mythology, the Goddess Athena gave her people the first Olive tree as a gift. I cannot think of a greater gift. She has been called the “grey-eyed” goddess for when the breeze lifts the underside of the olive leaf the color is grey. This duality of color, the light olive green on top and grey underneath, is part of the glorious charm of the olive groves on a summer afternoon when the sea breeze comes off the blue waters to pass through the trees. continue reading…

Living on a quiet Greek island the opportunity to see and feel and touch the simple things our everyday experience has to offer becomes easy. Part of the charm of Greece is the shedding of the rat race when spending time in this beautiful country. I just happens. Even the moment I step off the plane in Athens or Thessaloniki, with all the noise and rushing going on around me, there is this sense of stripping away. To me it almost feels like ancient invisible hands gently ripping the excess baggage out of me each time I set foot on Greek land. Even as the taxi whizzes expertly through the traffic I can feel myself becoming lighter. Now, after living on this island for the past 20 years, I wonder what that excess baggage was all about. It’s visions, like the way the clouds reflect off the Aegean, or the way the water flutters and spits where a school of fish are feeding just below the surface, the scent of morning after a night drenched with a full moon…. like a simple red vase on a windowsill, that show us where Life really is. When we let the baggage fall then there is more room for joy. Isn’t that what its all about?
