Oil on Canvas

70 x 50

Last month my dreamlets brought flowers to their grandmother. She placed the flowers in a vase she made herself (she is a wonderful ceramist) and placed them on her kitchen window sill. I had bought l these lotus fruits figuring that if I didn’t like them I can always paint them… or both! Well, honestly, I didn’t like the taste, but I loved the colors… and I loved how they played off my mother’s vase and the chrysanthemums. It was a joy to paint.

Oil on Panel

60 x 90cm

This painting is more of an expression of who I am right now than any other painting I have done so far. I’m not sure what it is about this one that makes my spirit sing every time I look at it…

The colors… there is Greece here… there is Spring… there is a sunrise or sunset depending on my mood.. there is motherhood… there is the child…. there is femininity and there is depth and continuity.

I hope you enjoy this one too….

Oil on MDF

45 X 60cm

The cliffs below our home are ever changing in swirls of color and light. They are ever inspiring and I love to paint them.

I am still working on this one. It is drying now and waiting for the next layer of paint.

Here is another work in progress…. .

“Gathering Poppies”

oil on MDF

60 X 90 cm

This one feels special somehow. Everything fell into place… the colors, the composition, the light spring feel to it… it is one of those “spirit” paintings where you come to the blank canvas/board and the painting seems to fall from inspiration right onto the canvas. Perhaps that is why I love this one so much.

I don’t think I’ll refine ti too much from here, but there are some things I need to do. The thing is, I won’t know what it is until the brush comes to the canvas. It is so much fun painting this way. The freedom of it is almost intoxicating and is the direction I feel I need to go in my work….

A beautiful, “Arhontiko” Greek village home with lush bougainvillea in bloom. Ochre is one of the colors of choice for the outside of a home. I love the white around the window and around the corner of the home and the little blue wooden shutters add so much character.

I took this picture yesterday evening as the sun was setting. We have pikro-daphne’s all around the house. Due to the lack of water over the years the poor things haven’t grown much. Now that the island does have water (finally) I am able to water them and we finally got to see some in bloom! The house in the background is part of our house.

Pikro-daphne’s can be seen along the roads. Huge colorful bushes of white and pink blossoms that last until October (maybe even longer). It is hard to believe that these bushes create a nice wind breaker when their flowers are so tender and delicate…. but then, strength does not lie in muscle alone…..
