Oil on Panel

60 x 90cm

This painting is more of an expression of who I am right now than any other painting I have done so far. I’m not sure what it is about this one that makes my spirit sing every time I look at it…

The colors… there is Greece here… there is Spring… there is a sunrise or sunset depending on my mood.. there is motherhood… there is the child…. there is femininity and there is depth and continuity.

I hope you enjoy this one too….

This one is finally finished. I enjoyed painting it immensely with all the warm colors against the cool sea. I am forever inspired by the scenes and colors right outside my door….

Oil on MDF

45 X 60cm

The cliffs below our home are ever changing in swirls of color and light. They are ever inspiring and I love to paint them.

I am still working on this one. It is drying now and waiting for the next layer of paint.

Here is another work in progress…. .

“Gathering Poppies”

oil on MDF

60 X 90 cm

This one feels special somehow. Everything fell into place… the colors, the composition, the light spring feel to it… it is one of those “spirit” paintings where you come to the blank canvas/board and the painting seems to fall from inspiration right onto the canvas. Perhaps that is why I love this one so much.

I don’t think I’ll refine ti too much from here, but there are some things I need to do. The thing is, I won’t know what it is until the brush comes to the canvas. It is so much fun painting this way. The freedom of it is almost intoxicating and is the direction I feel I need to go in my work….

Have a beautiful day….

Hidden Church 3

Oil on Linen

60 x 50 cm, 23.6 x 19.6 inches

There is something about this little church that keeps me coming back again and again to paint. Logistically speaking, it is easy to get to since it is on the lot next to my home, but that is not the reason I go there. Spiritually speaking I am not Greek Orthodox or anything else for that matter, so I don’t go there for any religious reasons either. Rather it is the way this little structure sits alone and forgotten on the hill, just beneath the massive olive trees that brings me there.

Once upon a time, the church was visited more often, but after the grandmothers and grandfathers passed away, the church fell into the hands of the next generation and now the next. The only people who come are the grandchildren of the original owners. They come maybe 3 times per year.

I guess I feel like I’m keeping it “alive” somehow by going up there to paint it. That somehow, in the act of recreating it on linen, I am pouring some kind of life-presence back into the lonely building….

Bid on this painting

On our fall trip to the Pindos mountains in western Greece, our first stop was at the brown bear sanctuary in Nympheo. We were struck by the stillness and beauty of the village. No cars are allowed to enter and so we got our things and began to walk. Just one turn in the road and we came upon a stone house (they were all stone) and garden. Hanging around the window were bunches of red “Florines” peppers drying in the sun. The contrast in color was stark and beautiful.
